Ahh, my eyes!
The thing in my previous post about the light hurting my eyes... It wasn't the light that was the problem -- it was my eyes! The next day, I could hardly open them. It felt like there was sand in my left eye, and it was so sensitive to the light, I wore my shades all day, even though it was a gloomy day. I got an ampoule of artificial tears from the first aid cabinet at work and washed my eyes out, which seemed to help a little. On the bottle, it said if the pain persisted for more than 72 hours, I should see a doctor.
By Monday, it was a little better, but not completely, so I called my doctor, who told me to see a specialist. I saw the eye doctor yesterday; it was the first time I've had my eyes examined in... Well, maybe it's the first time I've had my eyes examined. And so I was blissfully unaware of what would happen next. They put all sorts of drops in my eyes. Some to make them numb, some to dilate the pupils, some to constrict them. Everything went blurry, and I had bright lights shone in my eyes. After all this, the doctor finally told me what was wrong with my eyes -- nothing. They're just irritated. I was given a sample of anti-inflammatory eyedrops and sent on my way.

Mark, Thanks for being my first commenter. So here's one back at you. I'm on the Board of the Edgewater Glen Association. I live on the 1200 block of Hood, and have now for 17 years. Before that I lived on the 4700 block of Kenmore for 10 years.
You are quite right, the community is improving and has been steadily for the last 20 years at least. But we still have hookers, bums and drug addicts hanging around. On the plus side they help keep the neighborhood affordable and diverse, but on the negative... Well, I don't need to spell that out.
But, yes lets look at the other end of neighborhood destroyers, the developers looking for a quick turnaround on their buck. We are struggling now to place a limit on the west side of Broadway at 4 stories. I'm holding my breath yet that we'll get that one, inspite of exceptions at Ardmore and one to be built between Hood and Glenlake.
ECC is essentially a good organization. They are in the throws of getting caught in the switches of a paradigm shift. For years they struggled mightity to get developers to come and do stuff in Edgewater. Now the paradigm is one of keeping too many shoddy developers from over-developing. IMHO.
As for local blogs, we need a scoop blog. I suggested to ECC that they start one. I would also like to see the Schakowsky/Osterman/Smith/Volini office complex start a Democratic scoop blog. Have I done anything about it. Uh, no, I guess I haven't.
I prefer to have my personal blog on scoop. Shall we put one up ourselves you and I? It's a big job, but we can dream.
Another good Chicago blogger is Dan Johnson-Weinberger at http://djwinfo.blogspot.com/
Anyway thanks for the comment. I'll add you blogsite to my bookmarks list.
I posted a comment. I see a 1 comment listed, but I can't see it. Lets see what happens after I post another comment.
